More than two decades ago in Edmonton, DIE-NASTY THE LIVE IMPROVISED SOAP OPERA was created by Award-winning playwright and theatre director Ian Ferguson with a cast of talented improvisors. DIE-NASTY is still running! They are the recipient of a special Sterling Theatre Award and several Canadian Comedy Awards. After directing the first five seasons, three Soap-a-thons, and one Fringe mini-series, Ian and founding cast member Kirsten Van Ritzen moved to Toronto and created SIN CITY THE LIVE IMPROVISED SOAP OPERA with an all-star cast of Second City Alumna. It became a cult hit and media darling, selling out nearly every performance of a five season run, Soap-a-thon and Fringe Miniseries. It was taped as as CBC-TV special LIQUID SOAPZ, and the troupe headlined the prestigious Chicago Improv Festival. Ian and Kirsten moved to Victoria and created a new SIN CITY troupe in early 2011, debuting season one SIN CITY:DIE-NASTY with Victoria`s best improvisors. SIN CITY Victoria is ONLY affiliated with Edmonton's DIE-NASTY. The term 'soap opera' was replaced with 'serial' - to clarify audience expectations - it is improvised storytelling and not a satire of daytime television. Years later, many accolades and hundreds of delighted audience members can't be wrong.
